the finished baking dish.
half a shelf of glazed pending reduction firing:
as compared to a full shelf of oxidation pending glaze fire:
getting prepared for some hard nosed throwing first stoneware then porcelain and yes, the porcelain is covered in mold because it does that so easily. i shape the tubes of clay seen in the background behind the ball of clay into balls of clay then wrap them in brown paper towels because newspaper breaks down and is a pain to remove when i'm ready for the clay. the paper helps keep the balls of clay from becoming slimey from the condensation that forms inside the plastic in which the whole kit and kaboodle is wrapped.
i can breathe for a while. yay!

Lovely baking dish, problem solving glazing is always a challenge:)
ReplyDeletethanks. the worst part, i feel is waiting until the kiln has enough to be loaded at the studio. the oxidation doesn't take as long as it's only a skut oval, but the reduxtion is a huge walk in and i can stretch my arms out w/out touching the sides. it'll be a while before those get fired.
