Who was it said a potter's work is never done?

i trimmed today.  had some nice results.  unbagged the cookie jar also and set it out to wait for bisque fire.  too many people today.  didn't get to do all i wanted.  of course the broad with the motorized mouth had to plop right next to me though there were other spaces when she came in.  of course the other motormouths had to be there today as well.  egads!  but, i'm pleased, very pleased with the trim/handling results.

this is a cup i trimmed completely round on the bottom the other day then glued on a coil of clay and threw the foot.  i think it came out well.  i decided against a handle.

two mugs i finished today.  i put them up to dry over night and didn't bag them.  i hope they'll do okay.  i think they will.

i'm looking forward to glazing.  did i say that?  :D

had a busy week, so to recap . . .

my hands can't seem to stay warm in the studio these days.  my hands and nose (a built-in draught sensor) are usually cold while the rest of me is just fine.  i supose it has something to do with water's innate ability to disipate heat.  since the place is large and airy the heater doesn't do it well, i guess.  i am using warm water but by the time it gets cold i'm knee deep in something and do want to get up.  i've come up with a few odd looking things but they were fun to make.

i threw these cups monday.  didn't get pictures took so today i'll post these and then the resulting cups.

these are more cyclinders/mugs/cups etc:

a cookie jar in the making.

some of those cups.  i made them handleless except the mugs:

this jar needs trimming yet.  it is actually a jar with a cup that rests on top for the nightstand:

this is a jar i threw yesterday.  i had thrown a lid for it but when i put them together it didn't look right so i trashed the lid.  at least i know i can do this kind of lid:

a cup i threw yesterday.  it was supposed to be something else, but i was so taken with the form it was taking on, i kept it.  i'll handle it over the weekend, hopefully:

a covered rice/baking dish i threw and will trim and finish over the weekend hopefully:

as you can probly tell, i'm so enjoying my pottery experience these days.  i hope i start selling stuff as i'm really all about the money.  ;)

Pulled an all dayer . . . :D

i threw quite a few small cups today.  i was trying a different form.  i'll have pics tmw.  also, threw a water jar and a cup to rest on top thereof.  i will take a pic of it tmw also.

the bisque is piling up.  here's a look at my small shelf area w/all of it's bisque.  i was disappointed one of the bowls cracked.  i'm told it's a drying crack.

Photobucket

handled these mugs today.  the handles are a little bit odd, but i think they add appeal.

i had a stray thought abt trying to make a cookie jar at some point.  lo and behold!  the next item was a cookie jar w/a lid.  :D  still needs work and a handle and a nob on top.

Photobucket

well, that's all she wrote. i was glad to get back to the stoneware.  in fact, it worked a lot better.  more pics tmw, i hope.

shop work 11-21-09

just a few odds and ends here.  i get to go into the shop 3 days this week in a row!

the pitchers came out well enough.  not sure i am happy with the handles.  i'm definitely going back to the stoneware and porcelain.  the architecutral clay just isn't gonna work for me.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

the bowl/platter i came up with footed well.  i'm pleased with it.  actually i'm pleased with my footing in general since i've gotten the centering under control.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

i think this bowl has come out well all the way around.  the foot is just the icing on top of the cake.

Photobucket Photobucket

more mugs!  i had to really work to smooth these handles after letting them sit over night.  another reason i don't like the architectural sculpture clay.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

well, i'm jazzed abt these pieces and looking forward to my week in the studio.  :D

just a minor update . . .

a few more pics of the other day's throwing.  the studio will be closed only thursday and friday for the holiday.  yay!  it was originally posted to be closed on saturday and sunday also as well as the regular day it's closed of monday.  but, in december it'll be closed from the 25th thru the 3d.

these are two short mugs.  you'll want to click on the thumbnail for sure to see the detailing on these.  the detailing in the second one is more straight forward than that in the first.  i plan to put handles on them.  my handles have been wonky yet, but still getting better:

this is a serving bowl/plate i did.  it's rather open for a bowl but more concave than a bowl usuall is.

Photobucket Photobucket

i will try to get pics today of some of the other mugs.  the architectural clay tends to tear easily when i use it.  it doesn't for the studio manager when he demos for me.  so it's a me thing.
